i’m on a getaway (if you’re interested go to nine lives to read about it) to rest and read. several of the books i’ve brought to read deal with eating raw food. i’ve been thinking about eating vegetarian and mostly raw. i’ve done this thinking before, and actually juiced for a couple of weeks a while ago, but it became a nuisance and a huge effort – all that washing of greens and carrots. ugh!

but i’m looking at it again for it’s cleaning out aspects. i’m cleaning myself out mentally and emotionally, so why not physically? it’s not that i feel bad, i just know i can feel better. the books Raw Food Detox Diet byNatallia Rose and Raw Food Real World by Kenney and Melngailis don’t make switching a big deal. baby steps, that’s what i’m going to take.
what appeals to me about eating this way? it feels cleaner. food isn’t all mucked up with a bunch of sauces and oils. my digestive system is somewhat fussy and not crapping it up with sludge is appealing. i know someone who has eaten that way for years and his skin is beautiful, so there is a vanity thing too.
i went to a lecture the other day by a vegetarian/vegan dietitian who was totally against eating anything dairy. that’s a toughie, but he made good sense talking about how ¾ of the world is lactose intolerant, and the countries that do consume dairy have higher incidences of cancer and other baddies than the non-consuming countries. this is not the first time i’ve heard this, but considering my thoughts lately, it’s a serendipitous thing that this guy was in town and that i had the time to see him. when that kind of stuff happens, i pay attention.
my intention is that i will incorporate more raw into our diets.if S. wants cow, i’ll cook it for him, but in Raw Food Real World they say that after a while your craving for flesh (ick!) goes away, so i’m hoping that will happen for both of us. me for dairy, specifically ice cream, and S. for …flesh.
